“So tonight, I would like to influence all of you - or at least try to - to look with care and love to a cause that has won my heart for over two years, that is the refuge. If you want to get to know the beautiful work that is being done in Brazil, I present to you the IKMR”.
The IKMR or “I know my rights” it’s a Brazilian NGO, with no profit purposes, that has been active since 2012 in the country. Its major objective is to dedicate itself to the refugee children, asylum seekers, and resettled that are in the states of Amazonas, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Distrito Federal e Minas Gerais. After getting to know and falling in love with the NGO and its defense cause in 2016, Bruna Marquezine spent two weeks in the Middle East understanding the reality of the Syrian refugees and giving support to the institution that she sponsors and to UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). Since then, every year the actress celebrates Christmas at her house with the refugee children and promotes beneficial events to raise funds for the institution.
Three years later, in 2019, Bruna had her kindness and attention facing a new cause: the Aldeia Nissi project, which has as its purpose keeping and supporting the Sebastiana Garcia School in Angola, and helping humanely the families in the region. The fascination for the cause gave place to a profoundly engaged Bruna during a humanitarian trip to the African continent, where she visited, supported, and played with the local children. Marquezine furthermore helped raise funds through a fundraiser online that was destined to help with the place’s infrastructure that attended, at the time, more than 1400 people. The actress describes the experience as “love, in a raw state, simple and pure”.
